It was the beautiful cover and the title that made me want to read this book, but it was the writing that kept me turning the pages. The heroine is the sort of role model I'd wish for my teenage daughter or for anyone coming of age. Carla Stewart drew me into the story with her distinctive characters--some, likable; others, not so likable--and with her attention to detail, capturing both the mood of the period and the spirit of the milliner's art. Though set in the Roaring Twenties, the messages are timeless: navigating the passage to adulthood, pursuing one's dreams, confronting one's fears, finding one's voice, honoring oneself and others, keeping the Faith, and so much more. As the main character uses her gift for hat design to bring out the beauty in others, she realizes her own beauty and worth. I found myself trying to squeeze in extra reading time every day just so I could reenter the hatmaker's world. This book touched my heart. I'm looking forward to reading the author's next Roaring Twenties novel, "A Flying Affair."

A sweet story about learning to stand up for yourself and following your heart in more than a romantic sense. Carla Stewart has you cheering for her characters and hoping for that happily ever after.
Started off slow for the first few chapters. Moved along when more characters were introduced and the main character found her determination and started fighting for her dreams. There are some unexpected twists to the plot that definitely will hold your interest
This is the second book I've read by Carla Stewart. I was not disappointed. Her character development captures me and I enjoyed the time period of this book. Once again, her detail and knowledge of her subject matter impressed me. I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy historical WF.
Great story and message of hope. I enjoyed the authors historical accuracy of the times and the spiritual theme that troubled the roaring twenties. Today history repeats itself and sadly there is nothing new under the sun. Wish we could learn the lessons of then before another generation following wears the "same hat."
