Guardians Caretaker Chronicles Book 2 eBook Josi Russell
In the second installment of this fascinating series, Josi Russell builds a detailed world on the planet of Minea that is at the same time both familiar and strange. Ethan Bryant, the hero of Caretaker, shines once again as a moral leader who proves adept at handling any crisis thrown at him. His position as a governor often pits him against the greedy monopolies controlling the planet and the mining of its valuable mineral, Yynium. The plight of Minea’s oppressed miners reminded me of the mining boom in the late 1800s and the conditions most miners faced, with health risks and the control mining companies exercised over every aspect of the worker’s lives, including the price of food.Ethan’s wife, Aria, proves to be his match in strength and integrity when Ethan is lost underground on a survey mission, and she is left to unravel the source of a blight affecting both people and plants on the surface of the planet. Her ingenuity and kindness endeared her to me from the start. In fact, the author does a superb job of painting characters and their relationships with one another. As Ethan and his shipmates search for a way back to the surface, they bond together in powerful ways. Their adventures echo the Jules Verne classic, Journey to the Center of the Earth, although I thought Russell’s focus on character brought an added depth to their struggles.
Amidst the turmoil, the passengers of Ethan’s Ship 12-22 search for their place in the industrialized society of Minea. With artistic skills often considered expendable, they feel worthless. Guardians poses the intriguing questions: are art and beauty worthwhile pursuits? Can we be valuable, contributing members of society when we pursue our passions? As an artist myself, those are questions I’ve often pondered. I was pleased with the way the book answered them.
Guardians is a clean read with endearing characters and a rich, varied world that pulled me in and didn’t let go until the final chapter. It had the feel of a classic science fiction, but with an added depth of character that brought the story to life and made it sing. I would especially recommend it to fans of Asimov or Verne, but even those who haven’t read science fiction before will find Guardians enthralling.

Guardians Caretaker Chronicles Book 2 eBook Josi Russell Reviews
After the hero saves the day, he is supposed to go home and live happily ever after. But life is never that simple.
Ethan had just settled in to what was supposed to be his happily ever after with his wife and their new family. He was adjusting well to the side effects his adventure where he saved 4000 people in stasis, when the planet, home to his sunny meadow with the little blue cottage starts to show her ugly side. Natural dangers abound and Ethan once again finds himself in a position where he is responsible for a small group of people.
To further complicate things, the settlement of the planet was privately subsidized. Leaving just about everything owned by major corporations. However, corporations rarely care about much beyond their bottom line in their profit margins. Cutting corners and over promising available jobs has left the economy in a dire state where most citizens find themselves in an indentured servitude position.
In this book Josi Russell explores economic hardships and how they might look on another planet. She also pulls in themes of how do those with super abilities and fame assimilate as they strive for "normalcy"
The book is well written, and I really do like the characters. Josi has a way of creating a bevy of unique characters that you can't help but love (or love to hate in some instances).

As I have stated in other reviews, I am a huge fan of fantasy/science fiction/romance/ young adult/historical fiction and any combination of previously mentioned genres. I read those books like they are water. Seriously, I do. So when I was approached by Future House Publishing with an opportunity to read Guardians, I jumped on it.
I am glad I did.
This has to be one of the best books I have read since the start of the year. It sucks you in from the beginning with writing that literally leaps off the page and into your mind. My mental image of Minea will forever be of a paradise with a hint of darkness in my mind.
The characters were very well written. I loved Ethan and Aria‘s dedication to each other and to causes that they both felt were worth fighting for. The secondary characters just didn’t take up space in the book either. They were very well written and their storylines were concluded in such ways that you wanted to fist pump the air and say “YES”.
While this is a 2nd book in a series, it can be read alone. The author does enough explaining through out the book that you can get the gist of what happened in the first book. Personally, I would read the first book. Just so I could understand what happened. But that’s me and I am in the process of reading the first book and will post a review as soon as I am done.
Will I reccomend to family and friends? Yes, I will. Like I said above, I found that this book is very well written and a fairly fast read.
What age range would I reccomend to read Guardians? 12 and up.
Would I read it again? Absolutely!!!
Now, onto the links that I promised
